Label of the Week 9/5/10: Full Story

Istartedthefire records are an independent label based in Cheltenham. Committed to releasing the best folk music, with a passion for releasing actual, physical records over the popular format of the download, and they also have a habit for hosting epic all dayers at some of the premier music venues in Cheltenham. Their acts are picked on a basis of quality over quantity, and represent the pick of the crop from the Cheltenham area.

One of said bands are Jim Lockey & the Solemn Sun, a brilliant folk/punk 4 piece, based around singer songwriter Jim Lockey (unsurprisingly). The band take their influences from the likes of Bright Eyes and Frank Turner, and have played alongside an impressive number of contemporary folk acts, including Mumford & Sons, Johnny Flynn and Peter Doherty to name but a few. With such experience behind them, their debut LP ‘Atlases’ will be released over the coming months. They’ve just put this album track out for a free download, and it’s called ‘Machines’
