Review of PCD - Pussycat Dolls

Emerging as a burlesque dance troupe, the Pussycat Dolls performed in Johnny Depp's infamous Viper Club before clawing their way to major label glory with debut album PCD.

Memorable first track "Don't Cha", a groovy R&B duet with Busta Rhymes, is easily the best, while the funky "Beep", recorded with Will.I.Am (Black Eyed Peas) is another standout tune.

Elsewhere the retro jazz of "Right Now" is a worthwhile listen, not least for its clear affection for the musical Annie, and "Wait A Minute", recorded with Timbaland, is a great dance tune perfect for singing along to with a handy hairbrush.

The numerous covers and tributes padding out PCDs second half are forgettable. Cringe along to the strangled travesty of "Tainted Love", or weep as they pant through "Hot Stuff" (I Want You Back), trashing Donna Summer's disco classic with a mercenary zeal.

Still, even the dodgy covers are performed with studied class. After listening to PCD, it's fair to say these cats deserve their cream.
